Funding success to promote youth volunteering

On Friday (5th October) Uckfield Volunteer Centre held their Annual General Meeting and Community Forum at the Luxford Centre.

Representatives from around 40 local charities and community groups heard about the Centre’s success in obtaining additional funding to develop their service and an initiative to promote youth volunteering in our community.

During 2018-19, the Volunteer Centre will be working with schools and youth organisations with the aim of inspiring a whole new generation volunteers. This will cumulate in a big community celebration called ‘Celebrate Youth’ in July 2019.

Sessional workers Caroline and Stephan explained that there were keen to hear about any young person who gives up their time to help others so that they can be nominated for an award. In addition, they would like to speak with youth group leaders or community groups keen to get involved.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees Paul Sparks said:

“Uckfield has a great community spirit and this is very much supported by the activities of the Centre”

After the formal meeting, Rachel Lewis gave an engaging presentation about how voluntary organisations could improve their chances of success when applying for grants. Rachel also gave her top tips for writing funding bids.

The Uckfield Volunteer Centre is based at 79 High Street, near the cinema. It is open Monday & Friday from 10am until 1pm, and Tuesday to Thursday from 10am until 4pm. If you are interested in volunteering see their website for more information: https://uckfieldvolunteer.org.uk
