Edith celebrates her 108th birthday with family

Edith Eldridge has celebrated her 108th birthday today surrounded by family.

She was born on the 16th August 1910 at Mountfield near Battle and for the last few months has been resident at the Forest Lodge Nursing Home at Horney Common.

She went into service for the Edgerton family at Mount Field Hall when she was 14yrs old.  She stayed there for approximately 2yrs before going to Brightling Park, again as a Housemaid.

She married her husband Alfred in 1937 who died in 1968.

They bought a new three bedroom detached house in Bexhill and Edith lived at this property until she was 102yrs old, only leaving due to ill health!

They had one son, Alan Eldridge and two grandsons, Steven & David.
