On Tuesday 30th October Uckfield College once again played host to the Rotary School Master Chef competition.
Thanks again to regular judges Matt Ridley from the Highlands Inn and Martin Doyle from MD Foodforthought who is also this years president of Uckfield Rotary Club for giving up their time.
The standard was very high and the budding chefs where from year 8, year 9 and the sixth form.
Runners up where Poppy and Robyn from year 9 and year 8, Poppie’s chocolate brownie and Robyn’s Chicken ballotine where the pick of their menus and the Special award of the dish of the day went to Imogen of year 9 for her tasty turkey and coriander burger with guacamole.
The winner and going through to the regional finals in Kent on 26th January was 6th former Finn who is inspired by Heston Blumenthal and his work space looked more like a science lab than a kitchen, his winning dishes where a white chocolate veloute with mushroom tartare and oyster king mushroom followed by ginger sorbet, meringue Shards, mango curd and meringue snow.
Thanks to the colleges Louise Hampton and Kari Jenner for their organisation and support as well as Rory O’Connor and The Sen department, also to Uckfield Rotary club for their sponsorship of prizes and ingredients and to the Highlands of Uckfield who supplied vouchers for the winners to have a meal at the Highlands.
The President of Uckfield Rotary Club Martin Doyle who also runs his own catering buisness told the contestants to keep cooking and practice makes perfect and thanked them all for taking part. The Uckfield Rotary club was also represented by Peter Primit
