In Saturday’s local football, there was a good win for AFC Uckfield Town, as they beat Raynes Park Vale two-nil at the Oaks in the first qualifying round of the FA Vase. Matt McLean put Uckfield ahead after 27 minutes, and Anthony Storey scored a last-minute penalty to seal the victory.
In the Mid Sussex League, there was another defeat for Ridgewood, as they went down four-two at Cuckfield Town. Elsewhere, Buxted were beaten three-two at home to Willingdon. Newick lost four-nil at Crawley Albion. And Nutley drew one apiece with AFC Haywards.
Lewes maintained their unbeaten record in the Bostik League South after a one-nil win at home to Hythe.
And there was an historic first-ever win in the Premier League for Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday, after the Seagulls defeated West Bromwich three-one at the Amex Stadium.
Uckfield rugby club got their new league campaign off to a winning start on Saturday with a 13 points to seven win at near neighbours Eastbourne. There was also a victory for Newick, who beat Holbrook by 26 points to five.
In speedway, the Eastbourne Eagles kept alive their hopes of a top-place finish in the National League, after a 47 points to 36 win over Lakeside at the Arlington Stadium on Saturday night. The Eagles are back in action this evening, when they travel to Cradley.
