Weekend Sport Round-up

AFC Uckfield Town were not due to play this weekend. Ridgewood FC did play though, and it was a good weekend for them.

Ridgewood beat Copthorne’s fourth 5-2 on the all-weather pitch at Uckfield Leisure Centre, which clinched the Division Four Championship of the Mid Sussex League, with four games still to play.

There were big wins elsewhere as well. Buxted won 5-1 at Ditchling; Nutley beat Polegate 6-1 away and Fletching triumphed 6-0 at East Row.

There was an also an excellent result for Lewes, who won 3-1 at Cray Wanderers to move into the play-off places in the Ryman League South.

The good results kept coming as Brighton and Hove Albion maintained their automatic promotion challenge with a 4-1 victory at home to Burton. The Seagulls are back at the Amex Stadium on Tuesday evening for the visit of Ipswich.

In local rugby, there was no game for Uckfield’s first team. Meanwhile, Newick went down to 27-0 at East Grinstead.
