Disappointment for AFC Uckfield Town, late heartbreak for Lewes but it could be an Easter to remember for Brighton and Hove Albion.
There was another disappointing result for AFC Uckfield Town, who remain in the bottom three of the Southern Combination League Premier Division after a 1-3 home defeat by Newhaven. Uckfield will be hoping to bounce back when they visit rock-bottom Hailsham on Easter Monday – kick off is at 11am.
In the Mid Sussex League, Newick lost 3-2 at Fairfield. In cup matches, Ridgewood beat Crawley Athletic 4-2 whilst Nutley lost by the only goal against Ashurst Wood.
There was heartbreak for Lewes, as they conceded twice in injury time to lose 4-3 in a dramatic match at Carshalton, which effectively ends their chances of reaching the Ryman League South play-offs. Lewes play their final home match of the season on Easter Monday when they entertain Hastings.
It could be party-time at the Amex Stadium as Brighton and Hove Albion face Wigan. A win on Easter Monday will effectively confirm their promotion to the Premier League.
In cricket, Uckfield Anderida got their pre-season underway on Saturday with a seven-wicket defeat by Lindfield in a friendly at the Victoria Ground. Meanwhile, Sussex’s county team face an uphill task on the final day of their opening County Championship match of the season against Kent at Hove. Kent finished a shortened third day on 413 for 5 – a massive lead of 426.
