In Saturday’s local cricket, there was an outstanding victory for Uckfield Anderida against Newhaven at the Victoria Ground.
After the visitors had made 212 for six, Uckfield’s openers eased their way to a ten-wicket win, with Ed Watson making 121 – his maiden century – and Matt McCallum 80.
There was defeat however for Buxted Park, as they went down by six wickets at Cuckfield’s second team.
Elsewhere, a brilliant undefeated 141 from Nick Parsons earned Nutley a four-wicket win in a high-scoring match against Dicker. There was victory too for Maresfield, for whom David Patrick took four wickets in a 78-run win at Willingdon.
Newick suffered a crushing 272-run defeat at St Peters of Brighton, after being skittled out for just 60. And despite 81 from Steve Walker, Fletching lost by 12 runs at Keymer and Hassocks.
Meanwhile, Sussex’s county team had their latest T20 Blast game against Gloucestershire at Cheltenham yesterday abandoned because of rain.
In football, AFC Uckfield Town were beaten three-one in their opening pre-season friendly at home to Sevenoaks. Uckfield return to the Oaks tomorrow evening, when they entertain Hastings United in a 7.30 pm kick-off.
And finally, the Eastbourne Eagles speedway team remain top of the National League following a 54 points to 35 win over Buxton at the Arlington Stadium on Saturday night. The Eagles visit the Kent Kings this evening in a National Trophy clash.
