Uckfield Rugby veterans play veterans from Lewes and Newick

The veterans of Uckfield RFC played the veterans of Lewes and Newick RFC.

It turned out to be a cracking game to watch this Saturday with Uckfield Rugby Club’s first Vets game of the year.

A large crowd turned up at the Hempstead Fields, Uckfield, to watch a light hearted and enjoyable game of rugby.

For this their first run out of the season the club welcomed back several players who hadn’t been seen on a rugby pitch for over a decade.

The match was played at a surprisingly fast tempo with many glimpses of old skills from both sides some of the players had forgotten they even had.

The final score of the match was 45 -22 to Uckfield with seven try’s scored by Huxley,Rowlands, Hadgekiss, Bailey, Milner and a brace by Gietzen.

The score was very flattering to the home team and the match was only won in the final few minutes with three quick try’s by Uckfield .

The match was played with great spirit and all 45 players enjoyed a classic rugby encounter with evergreen referee Graham Pratt in charge.

Uckfield look forward to the return fixture next season .
