Nick Parsons drive for 4!
East Sussex Cricket League Division 5
Nutley won the toss and elected to field
Nutley – Win batting 2nd by 4 wickets
Nutley 271 for 6 (40 overs)
Dicker 268 for 4 (45 overs)
Nutley pulled off an outstanding win thanks to a brilliant maiden century.
Having been asked to bat, Dicker got off to a brisk start through form man Matt Hitchen (86) and Matt Sharp (33). Stu Ward (100) continued to make the home fielders toil with an excellent century to see Dicker to an imposing total of 268 for 4. Nutley’s recent form suggested that that was far beyond their reach but an innings of sheer brilliance was about to defy the form book.
In reply Nutley got off to a good start through Ian Ritchie (31) and were up with the run rate after 10 overs.
However, once Ritchie was dismissed it became the Nick Parsons show!! With a quite brilliant display of cutting, pulling and driving,he reached his 50 with just 13 scoring shots, Parsons then eased his way to his maiden century with good support from Alan Poulter (19) and Mark Reed (16).
From this point on Parsons simply battered Dickers bowlers to all parts of the ground finishing on 141 not out with ten sixes and 14 fours to see Nutley home at 271 for 6 with five overs to spare.
As for the bowlers, with a match score of 539 for 10, Warren Freer’s 6 overs for just 17 runs for Nutley should be seen as a triumph amongst the carnage! It’s a funny old game!
