A nearly-secret art-sale is taking place this weekend to help raise funds for East Hoathly Parish Church.
Donated artworks, which could be by a local artist or even a celebrity will be placed in a nearly-secret auction, this Saturday and Sunday 16 and 17 September.
Why is it a secret? The artists have signed their work on the back so prospective bidders will have the excitement of viewing and bidding on some fabulous art and then only when the sale is finished will the artist be revealed.
Why the ‘Nearly’? Some amazing artists are taking part and some of their work may be recognisable. Many artists and craftsmen and women have kindly donated pieces of art to the Nearly Secret Art Sale.
As well as a piece donated by the Bishop of Chichester, Dr Martin Warner, the celebrity art includes an original piece from this coming season’s Strictly Come Dancing contestants, the Reverend Richard Coles.
Rev Richard Coles presents BBC Radio 4’s Saturday Live. He regularly appears as a celebrity panellist on shows such as Have I Got News For You and QI, and he has had guest appearances on Songs of Praise.
Later in 2017, as well as being on Strictly, Richard will be presenting BBC One’s The Big Painting Challenge, alongside Mariella Frostrup. A far cry from his days in the 1980s band The Communards!
His donation is particularly apt as the funds raised will be going to East Hoathly Parish Church.
The sale will take place at a ‘Pop Up’ gallery on Churchmarks Lane, East Hoathly, East Sussex on Saturday 16th September (7 pm – 10 pm) and Sunday 17th September (2 pm -9 pm). Bidding, starting at £10, will be on paper over the 2-day event and finishes at 8.30pm on Sunday.
You are invited to view the art and enjoy a glass of something on the opening evening and sign up your bid. Alternatively, come for tea and cake on Sunday afternoon – but don’t forget to pop back on Sunday evening for final bidding and the exciting artist reveal! #shhhhhtelleveryone .
