The Paddy Rea Lifetime Achievement Award was announced by the Chairman of Uckfield FM – Mike Skinner

This award has been named in memory of Uckfield FM’s co-founder Paddy Rea who sadly died 10 years ago. Paddy was one of four of us instrumental in bringing community radio to Uckfield in Support of the Uckfield Festival in 2003.

I have the honour of announcing the winner of this category and from the comments by those who nominated this person, I can tell you that they have been at the centre of life in Uckfield for many years working tirelessly with local organisations and like-minded volunteers, to make Uckfield a great place to live with a strong community spirit.

To illustrate this, I can tell you that they were nominated for, among many things, being a founding and active committee member of a residents’ association, a volunteer driver for a surgery car service that they helped to start and a governor of Uckfield Community Technology College. Also for their work as a Trustee and secretary of the Luxford Centre and for being instrumental in putting Uckfield on the map with our own Olympic Torch Run and The Ridgewood Millennium Green project. And the winner can be seen every spring and autumn changing the flower displays on the towns street signs.

SHE…. was a also a Town Councillor. If you are not sure who this is by now, then for one week in July when the culmination of a years’ hard work is presented for us to enjoy as the Uckfield Festival, you can’t miss her!

I am pleased to announce that the recipient of the Paddy Rea Lifetime Award is Dorothy Sparks.
