District Chairman for the Rotary Foundation receives a cheque from Uckfield Rotary Club

Chris Barnett, District Chairman for the Rotary Foundation, visited Uckfield Rotary Club on Monday and received a cheque for £675.00 raised by members within the club.

The Rotary Foundation is celebrating its 100th birthday, having grown from $26.50, the first donation to the new fund in 1917 into today’s multi-million dollar international relief and development organisation.

In the last 100 years, the Rotary Foundation has spent over $3 billion on humanitarian programmes across the world. This includes spearheading the movement to eradicate polio, as well as initiating and funding local and global projects to improve health, promote world understanding and peace, provide water and sanitation facilities, enhance maternal and child health, enable basic literacy and stimulate economic and community development.

It does this through 1.2 million men and women who are members of 33,000 Rotary clubs across 200 countries of the world.
