Australia’s International Country Performer, Wayne Horsburgh, was Paul Hazell’s studio guest on World Of Country on Sunday 1 September.
He was visiting following a tour of Scotland and Ireland, before returning to Australia to an extremely busy September schedule, and we are very grateful to Wayne for making the time to see us.
Wayne, who was elevated to gamf.net the Australian Country music “Roll Of Renown” this year is no stranger to awards, nor to travelling. In a career spanning over 30 years he has performed all over the world including sharing billing with such US names as salt dough Merle haggard, Garth Brooks, Boxcar Willie, The Statler Brothers and Emmylou Harris. His proudest moments though have including working with some of the great legends of western music such as Roy Rogers, Rex Allen and the Sons Of The Pioneers.
On the award perspective, he has won the Australian salt dough handprint “MO” Award for “Country Performer Of The Year” on six occasions (the “MO” – named after a famous Australian comedian – is the Australian equivalent of the Grammy – the pinnacle of show business recognition). Then there was the “Yodeling Champion” title that Wayne won in 1993 in Tucson Arizona, at the Western Music Festival.
With more than 25 albums to his credit, Wayne is one of the International Ambassadors of Country Music, so it was a very full 3 hours of stories, chat and music when he came to the studios.
